Both are published. Both are accurate. They apply to different periods, and the Hawaii obligation is the longer one, because every year an entity sits on the state register is a year it must have an agent appointed. Evaluate the arrangement at $199, then, since that is the figure attached to year two and every year after. Year one is the sample.

Hawaii's rules for the role sit in HRS chapter 425R, the state's enactment of the Model Registered Agents Act. The change itself is administrative: Form X-7, the statement Hawaii uses to record a new agent, filed with BREG, the business filing office inside the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs. The state's stated fee is $25 and a further dollar goes to the State Archives, so $26 is what gets collected. Three requirements govern the replacement. A Hawaii street address, not a mailbox. Eligibility as someone living here, a company organized in Hawaii, or an outside company cleared to do business in the state. And an outside party rather than the company itself, because Hawaii does not permit an entity to hold its own appointment.

Order the steps deliberately. The new agent is engaged and named on the form while the old arrangement is still live, and the ZenBusiness plan gets cancelled after BREG's record shows the handover. Reverse those and your entity spends the interval listed with an agent who has stopped acting for it, which is a technical breach on a good day and a default judgment on a bad one.

Twenty-six dollars is the whole cost of leaving. The renewal difference is $100 a year. Any provider counting on a customer to find the switch too much trouble has not looked at Hawaii's fee schedule.
